In First Job, writer-director Jay Beaver delivers a sharp, quirky comedy that captures the anxiety and absurdity of entering the working world for the very first time. The film follows a nervous young man, played by Beaver himself, as he embarks on his first day at the ominously vague Money Business Incorporated. Despite his mother’s best attempts to calm his nerves, nothing can truly prepare him for the bizarre office culture that awaits — complete with an intimidating Boss (Steve Urbano) and a gang of over-the-top corporate enforcers known only as the Goonies. Each moment spirals further into workplace chaos, blending deadpan humor with an exaggerated take on corporate absurdity.
Backed by a cast that leans into the madness — including Keila Michelle as the warm but overbearing mom, Rachel Raniuio as a voice of reason, and a hilariously menacing trio of Goonies — First Job plays like a fever dream of every intern’s worst fear. With quick pacing, surreal office politics, and enough awkward encounters to fill an HR manual, the film is a hilarious and relatable look at how terrifying (and ridiculous) the working world can feel when you’re just getting started.
